RCH Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team of scientific computing experts. In this role, you will collaborate closely with scientists, data analysts, and engineering partners to advance research workflows. A solid understanding of life science concepts—such as reference genomes and protein sequences—paired with curiosity and a growth mindset is essential.
This position requires a strong foundation in bioinformatics along with robust Cloud Operations experience, preferably in AWS. We are targeting candidates with an advanced degree for this role. Job Description
RCH Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team of scientific computing experts. Essential Qualifications:
- Proficiency in data engineering with a focus on Python.
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining ETL pipelines including but not limited to implementing quality checks, automating workflows, curating and transforming scientific and operational datasets (structured and unstructured).
- Working familiarity with R sufficient to execute scripts, troubleshoot package issues, and support scientific workflows when needed.
- Exposure to life science, bioinformatics, or research computing environments, including understanding of concepts such as reference genomes, protein sequences, FASTA/FASTQ formats, or similar data types.
- Strong version control and DevOps practices, including Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and repeatable environment setup.
- Ability to learn domain specific‑ scientific concepts quickly, collaborate with scientists, and translate technical requirements into reliable solutions.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform, for repeatable cloud resource provisioning.
- Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to non‑technical stakeholders in research or science teams.
- Champion security, compliance, and data governance best practices (least privilege, secrets management, PII/PHI safeguards as applicable).
- Experience: minimum 7 year’s experience.
- Masters in Computer Science or Bioinformatics is preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering or adjacent roles with a focus on Python and ETL.
- Practical AWS experience operating and/or supporting production workloads.
- Working knowledge of R sufficient to support users, run scripts, or troubleshoot analyses.
- Exposure to life sciences or bioinformatics concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting and operational mindset: you document, automate, and build guardrails.
- Version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab) and CI/CD experience.
An ideal candidate will be collaborative, self-directed, and also possess:
- Experience supporting or using HPC environments leveraging SLURM
- Containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/GKE).
- Strong understanding of data governance, cataloging, and lineage tools; basic familiarity with regulated environments (GxP, HIPAA).
- Experience assessing existing code and workflows and identifying bottlenecks and optimization opportunities.
- Comfort collaborating with research users (scientists, statisticians, bioinformaticians).
- Experience in software requirements gathering, documentation, design, and development
- Positive, proactive can-do mindset
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects of moderate scope, mapping-out critical path, milestones and timelines, as well as manage customer expectations with minimal supervision
- Developed communication and presentation skills and a successful track record of collaborating with cross-functional scientific teams
